City Of Edmonton Begins Budget Talks

City council begins deliberating on the budget on Thursday, and over 170 people were eager to share their ideas for the city's money.

City council begins deliberating on the budget on Thursday and until then, non statutory hearings will be taking place at City Hall. Around 170 people have signed up to have their input on how they feel Edmonton City Council should spend their 2023 - 26 capital and operating budgets.

So far Administration is proposing an operating budget of $3.2 billion with a $7.75 billion capital budget over 4 years. 

Requests have been heard so far for investing in climate change programs, the Edmonton valley zoo and in the transit system. 

Mayor Amarjeet Sohi says he sees a desire for more collaboration and partnership opportunities come from these budget talks, with diverse groups participating. 

On Thursday the Edmonton Police Service will present their budget which will include funding for the Healthy Streets Operating Center in Chinatown.
