Remembrance Day 2022
Remembrance Day is a day for all Canadians to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed for our country. It is a day we encourage every individual, young and old, to pause, to give thanks and to remember.
Windspeaker Media Staff have rounded up where to attend and pay your respects at some of the already announced Remembrance Day events across Alberta.

Edmonton & Surrounding Communities
Several city landmarks in Edmonton will be lit up in red to mark Remembrance Day on November 11, including the High Level Bridge, City Hall, Muttart Conservatory, and Rossdale Power Plant.
BEAUMONT COMMUNITY CENTRE REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONY
Whether online or in person, Edmontonians are encouraged to attend this year’s November 11th ceremony at the Beaumont Community Centre. Guests are welcome to lay a wreath as long as they contact the venue ahead of time and veterans will be sat at the front of the service.

BEVERLY MEMORIAL CENOTAPH
Honouring soldiers past and present, the annual ceremony at the Beverly Memorial Cenotaph has returned. In addition to the traditional moment of silence and wreath laying, this particular event will also have a parade and a moving service held outdoors.

LEDUC REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONY
As a way to honour those who have given their lives, the city of Leduc will hold a moving ceremony at the Co-op Fieldhouse this month. If of course, you are unable to attend, this event will also be live-streamed on their website.

Those interested in learning more about Edmonton’s military history could also plan a visit to the Royal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum, which is open from 10 am to 3 pm on Remembrance Day.
Grimsby, AB
The 2022 Ceremony will take place at the cenotaph at the Grimsby Museum and is open to all members of the public. Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 127 Grimsby for organizing the ceremony.

Grande Prairie
An outdoor ceremony, organized by the Army and Navy Air Force Veterans, will be held at the cenotaph in Jubilee Park at 10:45 a.m.
That event will happen alongside the Royal Canadian Legion’s ceremony, which will be held at the downtown arena. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m. with the ceremony beginning at 10:45.
At the Legion’s indoor ceremony, there will be a moment of silence at 11 a.m. a wreath-laying ceremony, and a non-denominational service to pay respect for those who have lost their lives.
City of Calgary and Surrounding Communities
The Field of Crosses
Each year, more than 3,500 white crosses are displayed along Memorial Drive to symbolize the thousands of soldiers from Southern Alberta who have died in action in various conflicts since the Boer War. Visit the site at any point to read the names, ranks, regiments, date of death and age of death of these soldiers. For a truly moving experience, visit at sunrise or sunset for the flag raising ceremony that takes place daily from November 1 to 10 (although the area near the Cenotaph will be restricted to invited attendees only). On the night of November 10, visit for the Night of Lights, where lanterns will be placed and lit in front of every cross (the Field of Crosses will be closed to the public on the 10th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to prepare for this). You can also watch the televised Remembrance Day service on November 11, which will be broadcast live from the Field of Crosses on Global Calgary.

The Hangar Flight Museum Remembrance Day Ceremony
The Hangar Flight Museum’s Remembrance Day ceremony is a popular one. This year’s ceremony will take place in-person. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. The museum will be open to the public later from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., with admission by donation.

Canadian Pacific Remembrance Day Ceremony
More than 33,000 CP employees have served, and Canadian Pacific continues to commemorate them with its annual Remembrance Day ceremony. This year’s ceremony is open to the public, and all are invited to attend. The service begins at 10:45 a.m., with light refreshments afterwards.

Remembrance Day Service at Fort Calgary
In the Burnswest Theatre at Fort Calgary, a ceremony honouring those who have fought for the country will be happening on November 11, starting at 10:30 a.m. Commemorative addresses from Reverend Larry J. Nicolay (Cpl., Ret.) and George Pambrum (Sgt. Major, Ret.) of the Métis Nation of Alberta will precede the ceremony, with a moment of silence at 11 a.m. This service is free, but space is limited and registration is required.
